The Blue Ridge Scenic Railway, found in the small town of Blue Ridge, in north-central Georgia, is a fun ride year-round. The ride takes you through 26 miles of Chattahoochee National Forest, with views of the river, and lasts a total of four hours, with a two hour stop in the border town of McCaysville GA/Copperhill TN. In McCaysville/Copperhill you can enjoy lunch at one of the several restaurants, and do a little shopping or sight seeing. After the stop, you’ll ride the railway an hour back through the forest to Blue Ridge. Rides are available in both closed, climate-controlled cars, and open rail cars.
Several special rides are available on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway throughout the year, such as an Easter Egg hunt on stop at Farmer Brown’s, Copper Basin Fireworks, Pumpkin Picking, a special ride through the autumn leaves, winter rides, and a chance to meet Santa Claus during the Christmas season.
One of the coolest and most unique thing offered is the option to ride with the engineer in the engine of the train! Children must be at least 6 to ride in the engine, and must be accompanied by an adult. Rides are available in the engine both ways, or one way (and one way in the coach).
